Why We Are Proud To Be Made In The USA

Why We Are Proud To Be Made In The USA

April 19, 2018

In September 2013, we had perfected the fit of our first collection and were ready to manufacture. Based on the advice of experts in the apparel manufacturing industry, we placed our first order to manufacture in China and India. We received our first products eight months later. The quality was great, but something did not feel right to us. The lag time to receive products, the environmental issues with importing the products and the inability to constantly visit the factories bothered us. After a lot of discussion and thought, we decided to move all production to local factories, just minutes away from our headquarters.

Manufacturing in the USA ensures we can create new styles incredibly quickly while maintaining the highest quality. We are able to directly oversee each step of the process while turning our eight-month wait time into a three to six week production time. We visit our factories many times each week and have a constant pulse on the quality and ethical side of their work.

We stand by our pieces and do not produce new GRACEDBYGRIT pieces unless we have absolutely nailed the style, fit, construction and functionality of each piece. Part of our production process includes intensive testing. Women of all sizes in our community will test our samples; performing activities the item is intended for, and will send us their valuable feedback after wearing it.

Here’s an outline of the steps each item goes through before completion:

We design based on what we love and what our customers want. We focus on constructing clothes that have safety features and allow you to perform (and look) your best.

We work with our pattern maker to create a technical pattern. We develop the idea and our pattern maker creates the map on paper. Patterns are maps for the cutter.

To bring our designs to life, our fabric cutter lays the map on top of a sheet of our luxurious fabric. Each piece is individually cut to perfection. Our fabric cutter then passes off these cuts to the manufacturers to sew all the pieces together.

Sewers take all the pieces of fabric and sew them into our technical products. Each sewer at the factory has a specific job in bringing these pieces to life. One may sew the sleeve to the body of a top and another may add a pocket. It’s all about the teamwork.

Here’s Why It Matters
1. We LOVE giving back to our community and local economy.
2. By manufacturing all of our products in Southern California and using sustainable fabrics, we are reducing our carbon footprint.
3. You can stand beside GRACEDBYGRIT. Our apparel is made locally and we treat our employees fairly.
